My Shortest Atrial Fibrillation Episode To Date

Travis Van Slooten |December 9, 2014 | 9 Comments

I had my last episode less than 48 hours ago. When I wrote about that episode I sarcastically joked that at the rate my episodes were occurring I’d be writing daily pretty soon. Well it looks like I shouldn’t have been such a smart ass because here I am writing again. It’s not a good thing when the posts filed under “my afib journey” are growing by the week! I went to bed late as usual around 1 a.m. I […]

And Yet Another Atrial Fibrillation Episode

Travis Van Slooten |December 7, 2014 | Leave a Comment

If this keeps up I’ll be writing daily! My last episode wasn’t even a week ago. What the heck is going on? This is such bullshit. Can you tell I’m frustrated? As I look at my progression chart it boggles my mind how quickly my afib has spun out of control. I expected things to get progressively worse (eventually) but not like this. How does a guy go from having one episode a year to having them weekly? It doesn’t […]

Treating Atrial Fibrillation with Digoxin May Come With Risks

Travis Van Slooten |December 7, 2014 | 4 Comments

Digoxin is typically used to slow the heart rate in AF patients, but a new study is causing some health professionals to re-evaluate its use. The study revealed that there is an increased risk of hospitalization and death in patients who take digoxin. The new study involved nearly 15,000 adults who were recently diagnosed with atrial fibrillation and had no prior history of heart failure or digoxin use. During the three-year study, more than 4,800 of the patients began taking […]

Is Atrial Fibrillation a Progressive Disease? Ya, I’d Say So…

Travis Van Slooten |December 2, 2014 | 20 Comments

I was first diagnosed with lone atrial fibrillation back in 2006. Over the years as I learned more and more about afib, the one thing that always frustrated me was that it was a guarantee that it was going to get worse. It was especially frustrating because in the beginning I rarely had episodes. I was crossing my fingers I would get lucky somehow and it wouldn’t get worse. I was different I would tell myself. At the very least, […]

A Dream About Afib Triggers an Intense Atrial Fibrillation Episode in My Sleep

Travis Van Slooten |December 1, 2014 | 1 Comment

I woke up Monday morning at 4:35 a.m. from an intense dream. Ironically, in this dream I was having an afib episode! Is that scary or what? Aside from the episode I had during a power nap, this was the first time I’ve ever had an episode while sleeping. I hope this isn’t the beginning of a new trend. I’ve always feared having atrial fibrillation while sleeping because I have a hard enough time getting good sleep the way it […]
