Week 3: March 26, 2015 – Post Catheter Ablation Recovery Update

Travis Van Slooten |March 26, 2015 | 5 Comments

This past week has been great! Absolutely no issues to report with my heart or my overall health. My heart rate continues to beat in the 80’s – more than 30 beats per minute more than what my heart rate was prior to my ablation (52 beats per minute) but that’s o.k. I don’t even notice a difference and I know it will eventually come down over time. My weight is stable at 175 pounds and I haven’t changed anything […]

Week 2: March 19, 2015 – Post Catheter Ablation Recovery Update

Travis Van Slooten |March 19, 2015 | Leave a Comment

Another perfect week as I didn’t have a single heart palpitation or any symptoms from the ablation whatsoever. There have been no changes in my supplementation other than I took Natural Calm Magnesium occasionally in place of the ReMag magnesium. I still maintained around 750mg of magnesium per day. I also had an appointment with a naturopathic doctor this past week to have an EXAtest done. I’m looking forward to the results because I’ll finally know what my electrolyte levels […]

Week 1: March 12, 2015 – Post Catheter Ablation Recovery Update

Travis Van Slooten |March 12, 2015 | Leave a Comment

I didn’t have any issues whatsoever the first week after my ablation – not even a single heart palpitation. My insertion holes have already healed and I didn’t suffer any soreness, bruising, or anything with those. I did wash my car this week and I cleaned out the garage but I did these things very slowly as not to be too active. I probably shouldn’t have done either one the first week after the ablation but I was feeling great […]

My First A-Fib Ablation Recovery (3-Month Blanking Period)

Travis Van Slooten |March 12, 2015 | 195 Comments

When you have a catheter ablation to treat atrial fibrillation they call the three months following the procedure the “blanking period.” It takes three months for the heart to fully heal from the procedure. During the blanking period, you may have varying degrees of afib episodes or episodes of other arrhythmias such as atrial flutter. And you may experience other side effects from the procedure. Most of these things are considered normal during the recovery time so if you experience […]

Catheter Ablation Insertion Spots: One Poke In The Neck and Two In The Groin

Travis Van Slooten |March 10, 2015 | 4 Comments

For my ablation they poked me in the neck and two in the groin. I read that these insertion spots can be sore and even bruise for a few days after the procedure but I didn’t experience any of that. I didn’t experience any soreness, pain, or bruising. The only part that was uncomfortable was the tape they use to keep the swabs in place. I have no idea what kind of tape it is but it almost fuses with […]
